About Me
Ben Cumming
Meet the Photographer

Hi, I’m Ben 👋
I suppose you could say storytelling is in my blood.
I grew up watching my Dad direct actors in film studios, so I always assumed I’d follow in his footsteps and end up working in television. Little did I know that those early years, and the endless hours watching my Dad work, would teach me something that would become a huge part of what I do today — how to tell a story and capture emotion through images.
Fast forward 25 years and I picked up my first film camera. I was hooked.
Being the rebel I am, I thought that rather than capture a feeling through film like my Dad, I’d do it in one single image!
There was something about creating a photograph that could freeze a moment, capture a feeling and transport you right back to exactly how you felt at that time that fascinated me.
Then came the weddings…
After being asked far too many times by friends to photograph their weddings, I quickly discovered just how much I loved being part of these incredible days.
What started as a few favours soon became a genuine passion.
I’m now a well respected Yorkshire wedding photographer with nearly 20 years of experience, having photographed well over 600 weddings.
I’ve faced pretty much every type of weather imaginable in that time — and I always have a Plan A, B and C! That kind of experience is priceless when you’re trusting someone to photograph a day that simply can’t be repeated.
Over the years, I’ve watched countless photography trends come and go. But for me, there’s something timeless about beautiful, classic photography mixed with real, documentary moments.
That’s what I love to create.
I want your photographs to look like you — not like you’ve been dropped into somebody else’s wedding album, or like some random stranger has decided how you should look. I want you to look at your wedding album in 20 years and be transported back to that moment, that look, that giggle.
There might be the odd bit of gentle direction from me — “Pop your hands just there so we can see that gorgeous ring!” — but most of the time, I want you cuddling, laughing, chatting, messing around and simply enjoying yourselves.
And if the thought of having your photograph taken fills you with dread…
Don’t panic!
I hear it all the time:
“We’re really awkward in front of the camera.”
“We hate having our photos taken.”
“We’re going to be terrible at this!”
And then, at the end of the day, those same couples tell me they actually enjoyed it immensely.
I’m also incredibly proud to have well over 100 five-star Google reviews from my lovely clients — many of whom absolutely dreaded having their photographs taken.
Maybe I’m doing something right!! 😂
I might be just the wrong side of 50, but I’m a big kid at heart and I love having fun. I never really feel like I’m working because this is my passion.
It’s who I am, not just what I do.
I’m probably a little bit obsessive when it comes to getting things right, and definitely a little bit hyperactive — but that actually suits my role perfectly!
My job isn’t to turn you into models. It’s to make you feel comfortable, have a laugh and capture all those little moments that make your relationship yours.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime day.
I’m just there to photograph you having the time of your lives.
So relax, enjoy your day and let me do the rest.
You’re in VERY safe hands. ❤️📸

Showing your love story
Sharing someone’s wedding day is a privilege. It’s an intimate experience during which you have the chance to be around two people enjoying one of the happiest days of their lives. It’s about beginnings. Passion. Romance. Emotion. Getting to document these moments as images is an honour. It’s my responsibility to reflect that in the final photographs.
My Style As A Photographer
Everyone is different, and we all like different styles of photography. We can have soft and floral tones, or dramatic off-camera flash to create those “wow” images that really pop. Some people want their photographs to be more impressionistic and artistic, while others prefer an approach that reflects dynamic realism. Your wedding day is all about you: the happy couple. Whatever look you want for your wedding album, I can cater for your needs.
Serving Yorkshire & Beyond
I cover weddings across the whole of Yorkshire in towns and cities such as Huddersfield, Sheffield, Barnsley, and Wakefield, as well as Doncaster and my hometown of Batley. I also do portrait shoots and mentor other photographers in marketing. Check out my reviews from previous clients.
Award Winning Professional Photographer
Over the years I’ve invested heavily in training and qualifications with industry bodies, including the Guild of Photographers — earning Qualified status, the Photographers Bar, and Top 10 Photographer of the Year along the way. I’m no longer a member of these organisations; I’ve reached the point where I no longer feel the need to train within them, having developed a style and approach that’s entirely my own. The certificates here were duly earned and I’m proud of them, but these days my focus is simply on the couples in front of my camera.
