Allerton Castle is one of North Yorkshire’s most impressive wedding venues, and I’m proud to be one of its recommended photographers. Some venues make my job easy, and Allerton Castle is one of them. The first time I drove up the approach and watched the Gothic frontage appear through the trees, I understood exactly why couples fall for the place. I’ve photographed weddings here across the years and the castle still surprises me with new angles and new light. Being listed as a recommended supplier by the venue itself means a lot, because that comes from working alongside their team and knowing how a wedding day flows here.
What makes Allerton Castle such a special wedding venue?
In short: history, scale, and total exclusivity. Allerton Castle is a Grade 1 listed Victorian revival castle in the village of Allerton Mauleverer, handily placed between York and Harrogate just off the A1(M). When you book it, the castle and its grounds are yours alone for the day, with no other events sharing the space.
The building has a proper story. It was home to Lord Mowbray, and before that to Prince Frederick, the Grand Old Duke of York. Here we have the Temple of Victory (where legend has it “…he marched his men to the top of the hill and marched them down again…”)
Today it’s cared for by the Rolph Foundation, a charity dedicated to preserving it, and you feel that care in every room. Inside there’s the Great Hall, the Ballroom, the Drawing Room, the Library and the Billiard Room, and outside there are formal gardens, parkland and the Memorial Garden. As backdrops go, you’re spoilt for choice.
Why does it help to have a photographer who knows the castle?
Because a venue this size rewards local knowledge. As an Allerton Castle wedding photographer recommended by the venue, I already know how the light moves through the Great Hall during a ceremony, where the sun drops over the parkland in the evening, and which corners stay quiet when you want ten minutes of portraits away from your guests.
It also means I know the people. I work alongside the castle’s team, so timings, room turnarounds and the little logistical questions get sorted without you ever hearing about them. You stay in the moment, and I get on with capturing it.
What does your wedding day at Allerton Castle look like through my camera?
Every wedding is different, but an Allerton day has a rhythm I love. Morning preparations happen inside the castle, which gives me those calm, close moments before the day opens up. Ceremonies in the Great Hall are genuinely breathtaking. It’s one of the grandest rooms I work in anywhere in Yorkshire, and the scale of it makes even a smaller wedding feel like a real occasion.
After the ceremony, drinks spill out onto the lawns with the castle frontage behind you, and that’s usually when I send the drone up. An aerial view of your guests on the lawn with the whole castle in frame is the kind of shot you simply can’t get at most venues.
Portraits take us into the gardens and the quieter corners of the grounds, then the Ballroom hosts the wedding breakfast before the evening party begins. Before the night gets going, I’ll borrow you for a twilight shoot. The castle lit up against a darkening sky is worth five minutes of your evening, every time.
How much does wedding photography at Allerton Castle cost?
Full-day coverage starts from £1,400 with my Romance Collection, which includes a full consultation, drone photography, a twilight styled shoot, an online gallery and around 350 or more edited images. The Elegance Collection at £1,800 adds a 25cm album box set, and the Premiere Collection at £2,300 brings in a pre-wedding shoot and a second photographer with roughly 700 edited images.
If you’re planning something smaller, my Essentials Collection covers five hours from £850 for October to March weddings. Everything is laid out on my packages page, and I’m always happy to talk through what fits your day.

Can you film our Allerton Castle wedding too?
Yes. Working with Hazel from HD Films, I can offer wedding highlight films from £650, a beautifully edited 5 to 10 minute film of your day. Full feature-length films are £1,200, reduced to £1,000 when booked alongside a full-day photography package. It’s a popular add-on for castle weddings, because the venue looks incredible on film.
We also now offer Content Creation providing a 1-minute reel, along with 150+ unedited images delivered within 48-hours of your wedding day. This package is £400. We do things slightly differently as we tease of what is yet to come rather than duplicating in poor quality the ‘hero shots’ I create for you. You may see me paddling in a pond to get a final image!
