I’m Over the Moon: Two of My Images Selected as Finalists for Image of the Year!
Quick Answer
Two of my wedding images have been selected as finalists for the Guild of Photographers Image of the Year Competition, a highly respected UK contest with thousands of entries. This recognition highlights my dedication to capturing authentic, storytelling wedding photography across Yorkshire’s beautiful venues.
Welcome to another beautiful Yorkshire wedding story. As a wedding photographer with over 25 years of experience capturing special moments across York, Leeds, Harrogate, and the Yorkshire Dales, I love sharing these real love stories. Whether you are planning an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, I hope this post gives you plenty of inspiration for your own big day.
How Did I Feel When I Found Out My Images Were Finalists?
I honestly couldn’t believe it when I opened the email from The Guild of Photographers. My heart started racing as I read that not one, but two of my wedding images had been selected as finalists for the Image of the Year Competition. It’s a huge honour, especially knowing the level of talent this competition attracts from across the UK and beyond.

What Makes the Guild of Photographers Image of the Year Competition So Prestigious?
The Guild’s Image of the Year Competition is one of the most respected photography contests in the UK. Each year, around 9,000 entries flood in from photographers who are passionate and highly skilled. The standard is incredibly high, and seeing the monthly award-winning images always pushes me to improve and get more creative with my own work.
How Hard Is It to Become a Finalist in This Competition?
Getting through the monthly rounds is a challenge in itself, but to have an image chosen as one of just 10 finalists in a category for the year-end competition is an extraordinary achievement. These finalists are picked from all the outstanding images submitted throughout the entire year, so it’s a real testament to the quality and storytelling in my photos.
Where Were the Finalist Images Taken?
Both images that made the final were captured at one of my favourite wedding venues, Allerton Castle in North Yorkshire. This Grade I listed Gothic revival stately home is a place I love to work at. Its dramatic architecture and beautiful grounds create such a unique atmosphere that always inspires me to capture authentic moments.
Being a recommended photographer there is an honour, and I always enjoy weaving the venue’s story into the couples’ own love stories through my photography.

Why Do I Enter Photography Competitions Like This One?
Besides the thrill of possibly winning, I enter competitions like the Guild’s because I’m a bit of a photography geek. I love both the technical and creative sides of the craft. These competitions keep me sharp, pushing me to experiment with new ideas and techniques. Every month, I see images that make me think, “How did they do that?” or “What a clever perspective!”
That constant inspiration helps me deliver the best possible images to couples across Yorkshire, whether I’m shooting at venues in West Yorkshire like Waterton Park or down in South Yorkshire.

What Does Being a Finalist Mean for My Photography?
Being a finalist is a huge validation of my approach to wedding photography. I focus on natural, unobtrusive storytelling that captures genuine emotions and moments. It’s wonderful to know that this style resonates not only with the couples I work with but also with industry experts judging the competition.
It motivates me to keep improving and delivering images that couples will treasure forever.
When Will the Winners Be Announced?
The final winners will be revealed at The Guild of Photographers’ Awards Gala evening on February 7th, 2026. I’ll be there alongside other talented photographers from across the UK, celebrating our achievements and finding out if either of my images takes the top prize in their category. It’s an exciting moment I’m really looking forward to.
How Does This Recognition Benefit Couples Planning Their Weddings?
If you’re searching for a Yorkshire wedding photographer, knowing that I’ve been recognised by such a prestigious body gives you confidence that you’re working with someone who’s committed to excellence. Awards are lovely, but what really matters to me is capturing those emotional moments that make your day unique and special.
This finalist status shows I’m constantly honing my craft to deliver the best possible images for every couple, whether you’re getting married in Batley, Leeds, or anywhere else in Yorkshire.
Who Has Supported Me Along the Way?
I want to say a huge thank you to all the couples who have trusted me with their wedding days. Every wedding teaches me something new, and your stories inspire me to keep pushing creative boundaries. I’m also grateful to the amazing venues I work with, like Allerton Castle and others across Yorkshire, for providing such beautiful settings.
And of course, thanks to The Guild of Photographers for running a competition that keeps photographers like me inspired and striving for excellence.
