I am fortunate to have covered weddings in so many different locations in Yorkshire – from grand stately homes and traditional hotels to barn conversions and outdoor Tipi weddings.
Yorkshire Weddings Are The Best!
Yorkshire covers a massive area and is split into 4 counties – North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire and West Yorkshire (where I am based in Dewsbury). Yorkshire includes important cities like Leeds, Sheffield and York and towns such as Harrogate, Halifax, Whitby, Wetherby, Scarborough and Yarm. Yorkshire is such a popular place to get married that many couples travel from London to get married in their home town.
What Are The Best Wedding Venues In Yorkshire?
It’s hard to narrow down a list to only 10 (I might have to add a second list next month as there are so many to choose from!). However, I wanted to include some of my favourites that I have worked at over many years.
This is my A-Z list of 10 amazing weddings in Yorkshire that you should check out when you are planning your big day.
There is a common theme in that all of these venues are located on their own grounds in the countryside rather than being in a city centre. The benefit is that in many cases you can opt to have your wedding ceremonies indoors or outdoors (depending on the Yorkshire weather!). The space also means there is an option to have your wedding breakfast in a marquee which is an increasingly popular choice.
1) Allerton Castle
Allerton Castle is a Grade I listed 19th-century country house near Allerton Mauleverer in North Yorkshire. This distinctive venue is the ideal backdrop for your wedding photos with lovely grounds and unique original features inside.
2) Carlton Towers
Carlton Towers is a sizeable Grade I listed country house 250-acre park near Selby. This impressive building is a breathtaking setting for your wedding. Carlton Towers promises a truly unique experience for a classic wedding in Yorkshire.
3) Crathorne Hall
Crathorne Hall is the perfect place for a private wedding, set on its own grounds on a private estate of 15 acres. Located near Yarm in the North East of England, this traditional hotel has landscaped gardens and interior period features as well a large bridal suite.
4) Goldsborough Hall
Goldsborough Hall is a privately owned country house hotel near Knaresborough in North Yorkshire. You can hire the venue for your exclusive use and the beautiful house and grounds (with a secret garden) are the perfect backdrop for your wedding photography.
5) Hazlewood Castle & Spa
If you want to get married in a fairytale castle in the East Yorkshire countryside, then you should seriously consider Hazlewood Castle for your special day. Hazlewood is set in 77 acres of woodland and dates back to the 11th century and is close to both Leeds and York. There is an impressive courtyard which is a great setting for your wedding photos.
6) Oulton Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort
Oulton Hall is an impressive hotel set in an 18th-century mansion to the south of Leeds. Oulton offers a luxury experience with the benefits of a spa and golf course on site. It has everything and could be the perfect wedding venue for you.
7) Rudding Park
Rudding Park is an upmarket hotel that features a spa, championship golf course and its own chapel (for civil ceremonies). There are few hotels that can outrank Rudding Park for its splendour and experience for traditional weddings.
8) Waterton Park Hotel & Walton Hall
Waterton Park Hotel is a truly unique 4-star hotel located on its own island which you access over a bridge. The stunning setting alone could mean this is the perfect wedding location for you as bride and groom.
9) Wharfedale Grange
Wharfedale Grange is a relatively new, family-run venue based in a large converted barn located to the south of Harrogate in North Yorkshire. Wharfedale’s contemporary style and location will appeal to many newly-engaged couples.
10) Wood Hall Hotel & Spa
Wood Hall Hotel is an 18th-century county house hotel set in 100 acres of woodland and rolling countryside. Offering a luxury experience for a traditional wedding this is an ideal venue where you can exchange vows and get married in Yorkshire.
How Much Does It Cost To Hire A Yorkshire Wedding Venue?
There is a wide variety in the prices and packages available from these Yorkshire wedding venues. I’d suggest visiting the websites and contacting the wedding coordinator at each venue to get a personalised quote.
What are the benefits of choosing a Yorkshire wedding venue?
It is hard to compete with a venue based in “God’s own county” as a location for your wedding day! The scenery of Yorkshire Dales and acres of beautiful woodland is unbeatable in my opinion (I am biased!).
