Burntwood Court Hotel Wedding Photographer – A Guide to Getting Married Here
If you’re looking for a Burntwood Court Hotel wedding photographer, the venue gives you a lot to work with: an on-site chapel with floor-to-ceiling windows, 35 acres of landscaped grounds, and plenty of space for the whole day to happen in one place. I’ve photographed weddings here and it’s one of those South Yorkshire venues where you can get real variety in your photos without anyone needing to get in a car.
My job on the day is to blend into the background and catch the moments you’ll want to remember, not to march you around for hours of posed shots. Below is what I’d want any couple to know before they get married at Burntwood Court, from the best spots for portraits to how I plan the timings with you.
Where Is Burntwood Court Hotel and What Is It Like?
Burntwood Court sits on Common Road in Brierley, just outside Barnsley, and it’s set in 35 acres of landscaped grounds. It’s a hotel, spa and fitness complex as well as a wedding venue, so your guests can stay over, and you can wake up the next morning without a long journey home.
For me, the big plus is that everything is close together. The chapel, gardens, bandstand and wedding suite are linked by stone paths, which means the day flows nicely from the ceremony to drinks to the wedding breakfast. Less time walking between spaces means more time with your guests, and more natural moments for me to photograph.
It’s also a straightforward trip for me from my base in Staincross, and I cover weddings right across Barnsley, Wakefield, Sheffield and Doncaster, so I know this corner of Yorkshire well.

Can You Get Married in the Chapel at Burntwood Court?
Yes, and it’s one of the venue’s most unique features. The on-site chapel sits within the gardens and has oak-beamed high ceilings with huge floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the countryside.
From a photography point of view, those windows are a gift. Big windows mean lovely soft daylight falling across the aisle, so the light on your faces looks natural and I can work quietly without getting in the way. I’ll usually tuck myself to one side for the vows, then move to the back to catch the walk back down the aisle and your guests’ reactions.
What If Our Ceremony Is in One of the Suites Instead?
That works really well too. The wedding I photographed at Burntwood Court had its ceremony in one of the function suites, with chandeliers overhead and a white aisle runner scattered with petals. It looked beautiful in black and white, and because the room was set up so neatly, it was easy to stay out of the way and still see everyone’s faces.
One of my favourite frames from that day was the groom, completely gone, wiping away a tear as the bride walked towards him on her dad’s arm. That’s exactly the kind of moment I’m there for. Nobody posed it, and nobody would have remembered it without a photo.

Where Are the Best Places for Photos at Burntwood Court?
The grounds are the star here. With 35 acres to play with, you’ve got open lawns, mature trees and the bandstand, all within a few minutes’ walk of the reception.
Here’s how I tend to use the venue across the day:
- Bridal prep: the bridal suites are a calm, comfortable place to get ready, and having the hotel on site means nobody is rushing to make the ceremony.
- Drinks and canapés: the stone paths, gardens and bandstand around the chapel are made for relaxed candid shots of your guests mingling.
- Group photos: the lawns give plenty of space for families, and I keep the list focused so you’re back with your guests in no time.
- Couple portraits: I’ll take you for a short wander under the trees, away from the crowd for a few minutes.
- Evening: the reception rooms take on a different feel once the lights go down and the dance floor fills up.
Will We Get Twilight Photos?
If the sky plays ball, absolutely. A twilight shoot is included in my full-day collections, and the open skies over the grounds at Burntwood Court can look incredible as the sun goes down. I’ll keep an eye on the light during the evening and nip you outside for five minutes when it’s at its best, then you’re straight back to the party.
Drone photography is also part of my collections, weather permitting, and the size of the grounds here makes for some great aerial shots of the venue and your guests.

What Happens If It Rains on Our Wedding Day?
You’ll still get beautiful photos. In nearly 20 years of photographing weddings, I’ve faced pretty much every type of Yorkshire weather, and I always have a Plan A, B and C.
At Burntwood Court, the indoor spaces give us good options. The chapel’s big windows still let in plenty of light on a grey day, and if there’s a break in the showers we can pop outside for a few portraits. I’d rather you were warm, dry and enjoying yourselves than stood in the drizzle for the sake of one more shot.
How Do I Plan Your Burntwood Court Wedding Photography?
We start with a proper chat about your day, who matters most to you, and which photos are important. From there, I’ll help you build a timeline that gives us time for portraits without taking you away from your guests for long.
It’s worth knowing that Burntwood Court includes a toastmaster with its day and evening reception package, and a good toastmaster makes my job easier, because we can work together on groups, the speeches and the first dance.
I’ve now photographed well over 600 weddings, and the thing couples say to me more than anything is that they were dreading the camera, then actually enjoyed it. That’s backed up by over 100 five-star Google reviews, which you can read on my reviews page.
Can We Have Video at Burntwood Court Too?
Yes. I work alongside my partner Hazel at HD Films, who offers highlight films and full feature-length wedding videos, and booking photo and video together can save you money. Have a look at my wedding packages for the current collections and prices.
