Your Grantley Hall wedding

The Staircase at Grantley Hall

Grantley Hall is the perfect blend of history and contemporary, effortlessly luxurious and evocative of romance and a fairy tale setting. They offer celebration spaces both indoors and for an outdoor wedding ceremony, and the sheer range of what’s on offer here spoils you for choice but also means all your dreams will be catered for!

Speaking of catering, by the way, the dining here is renowned and typically opulent as the rest of Grantley Hall. They have a wide range of eating and drinking, from exquisite dining to enticing Pan-Asian cuisine. Your main course will be unforgettable and the wedding breakfast will also be catered for in style. They use the greatest high-quality fresh, seasonal produce and local suppliers for all of their eateries and the range of bars means your guests won’t go thirsty!

The Music Room is reserved for ceremonies, while outside by the Japanese Gardens, they take place. After that, you’ll relax with Champagne and hors d’oeuvres in The Orchard, which has views of the gardens and lawns extending beyond it. This is perfect for an outdoor wedding ceremony if that’s your vision for the day. It also makes for a perfect romantic backdrop and, as one of the Grantley Hall wedding photographers, I can tell you that couples are never disappointed!

History of Grantley Hall

Thomas Norton erected Grantley Hall at the end of the 17th century, in a Palladian style of architecture and construction, which would have been completed just before Queen Anne’s reign.

Grantley Hall was originally a modest block, which faces south towards the River Skell. Norton’s Lounge is on the ground floor of the original structure, which was previously used as an entrance to the private home.

The 5th Lord Grantley sold Grantley Hall in January 1900 to Sir Christopher Furness, a multimillionaire shipping magnate. Sir Christopher was born in 1852 and, when he was just 18 years old, he expanded his father’s grocery and provisions company into an international market.

Sir Christopher was also responsible for the construction of new wings to Grantley Hall; it was during this time that the house acquired its current appearance. An extension to the Music Room, as well as a Billiard Room above the Entrance Hall, were also constructed at this time. A new southwest wing, known today as Fletchers Restaurant, was also opened.

When local Yorkshire woman Valeria Sykes bought the property in 2015 with a goal of creating a legacy for Grantley Hall, giving employment and career options in the region, and supporting the local economy for both hosting weddings and events in the procurement of supplies and services.

The site at Grantley Hall was ideal for Valeria’s love of the arts, history, ancient architecture, interior design, and innovation, and work began on restoring the structure with respect. Much of what we know and love about Grantley Hall now is down to Valeria.
